My Thoughts
To be honest, this book was a little too tame for me. I am a romance lover and I liked the slow romance that the story had, but I missed the intense passion that is not often present in Christian fiction. Don’t get me wrong, I love a sweet romance, but most of the time I am looking for a bit more sizzle from my romance novels.
I did like the plot. It was a little something different. The characters were likable. I only had one grip, though. I didn’t like the fact that Daphne played the all too familiar weak female role. I instantly dislike heroines that lose themselves when a romance goes south. I know breakups are not easy, but I hate to read stories with females that have so much to offer but can’t seem to remember what that was without the man in their lives. What’s even worse is that it takes another man to help them remember how great they are.
I liked Jesse because I’m a sucker for a guy that rescues the damsel in distress. It also didn’t hurt that he was a single dad. Yes, I had several “awww, that is so sweet” moments when I read the parts with his son. Even without his daddy cape on, Jesse was just a good guy. Despite his own personal demons, he still had enough compassion to help out someone he barely knew. Rarely do you find men that just want to help out without strings attached so I thought that was sweet.
Overall, I thought the book was a good read. Although it is Christian fiction and does have moments where the characters embrace their faith in order to keep themselves sane, it doesn’t come across as too preachy. It has just the right balance and I enjoyed reading it.
