The Mane Attraction by Shelly Laurenston

Five Stars
Book Summary
Weddings have the strangest effect on people. How else to explain the fact that Sissy Mae Smith woke up in Mitch Shaw's bed the morning after her brother Bobby Ray tied the knot? Or that gunmen are trying to kill Mitch, and Sissy Mae now has to escort a bleeding, stubborn, yet still incredibly sexy lion shifter to her Tennessee Pack's turf to keep him safe? It doesn't help that Mitch's appraising gaze makes her feel like the most desirable creature on earth, or that the ultimate stray cat is suddenly acting all kinds of possessive...
Mitch is an undercover cop who's about to testify against some dangerous ex-associates. Even more worrisome, he's harboring hot, X-rated fantasies about the fast-talking little canine-and he has to deal with every male in Sissy Mae's Pack sniffing around her in a way that makes his hackles rise. Mitch has his pride, and he intends to show Sissy Mae that when a lion sets out to make you his mate, the only thing to do is purr, roll over, and enjoy one hell of a ride...

My goodness, where to start? This book had me LMAO! This is book three in her The Pride Series. Shelly Laurenston knows how to tell a story. You've got fast talking hillbillies, shifters of all kinds, alpha males and females, family squabbles, super hot sex, and dialogue that will keep you laughing for days.
We met Mitch and Sissy Mae in The Mane Event. Mitch, a lion shifter, is Brendon's younger brother who everyone thought was a total screw up and a disgrace to their Pride. Turns out he's an undercover cop with a million dollar bounty on his head. Sissy Mae, a wolf shifter, is Smitty's shit starting baby sister with her own Pack. Sissy Mae is a handful for anyone who knows her because she loves to start shit whether you're ready to fight or not. They were suppose to be best friends but as soon as Sissy Mae takes him home to Smithtown, Tennessee, everything changes.
I loved this story and couldn't put it down until I finished. I'm still trying to figure out what in the world "hoss" means. SL took her readers straight to the country where everybody knows your name, everybody knows your business, everybody is related, and everybody wants to kill you.
Mitch was his old lovable self, flirting his way through life to get what he wanted. His tune abruptly changes when he realizes that every male in Smithtown and surrounding area wants a chance with the legendary Sissy Mae Smith. He wants to be her one and only, but all Sissy Mae wants to do is keep their relationship with no strings attached. That's kinda hard to do when all they think about is each other.
You will have absolute fun reading this story and any other book she has written. She also writes under the name G A Aikens.

On The Edge by Ilona Andrews

Four stars
Book Summary
Rose Drayton lives on the Edge, between two worlds: on one side lies the Broken, a place where people shop at Wal-Mart and magic is nothing more than a fairy tale; on the other is the Weird, a realm where blueblood aristocrats rule and the strength of your magic can change your destiny. Only Edgers like Rose can easily travel between the worlds-but they never truly belong in either.

Rose thought that if she practiced her magic, she would build a better life for herself. But things didn't turn out the way she planned, and now she works an off-the-books job in the Broken just to survive. Then Declan Camarine, a blueblood noble straight out of the deepest part of the Weird, comes into her life determined to have Rose (and her power).

But when a terrible danger invades the Edge-a flood of creatures hungry for magic-Declan and Rose must overcome their differences and work together to destroy them, or the beasts will devour the Edge and everyone in it..

The cover of this book really threw me. I thought it was like one of those sappy Harlequin novels. The cover male model looks like a Fabio protegee and the female looks like she just stepped out of a Walker Texas Ranger episode.
It's been a minute since I've read a story that I did not want to end. I picked it up and couldn't put it down. This is first novel I've read by Ilona Andrews. The story has magical beings, action, humor, and romance all wrapped up in a wonderful story. Two things I didn't like about the story was the fact that William turned out to be a bad guy, and there was so much gory details about the hounds and Casshorn. Simply gross.
I liked the romance between Declan and Rose and was glad when they finally got together. It was so much fun to read about him getting under a skin and protecting her whether she liked it or not. I absolutely loved it when he kicked her old boyfriend's ass and when she meet his family. I look forward for to the next installment of The Edge Novels.

To Crave A Blood Moon by Sharie Kohler

Four stars
Book Summary
Imprisoned and tortured by a lycan pack, half-breed Sebastian Santiago is determined not to break. But now they've come up with a cruel plan-starve Sebastian until he is half-mad with hunger, then force him to succumb to his werewolf instincts by giving him human prey to feed on.

Snatched from the streets of Istanbul, American tourist Ruby Deveraux has already seen the horror of her companions torn apart. Now she is thrown into a dark cell with a shadowy shape she can barely see. But Ruby is no ordinary woman. All her life she has been able to sense the emotions of others, and she knows instinctively that while Sebastian does not want to be her enemy, he is in the grip of sensations so dark and primitive that he can barely control them. But amid his surging feelings she can detect passion-passion for her as a woman. This, she realizes, may be her only hope. IN the unrelenting dark, trapped in a hideous prison, can Ruby and Sebastian somehow forge a fragile alliance and break free from thier deadly captors to seize a love neither dreamed possible?

I loved this book. This is book three in the Moon Chaser novels so I'll have to back track and read the other books.
The book started off great with Sebastian trying hard not to be tempted by Ruby, but we all know how weak a man's desires can make him.
I'm all for Alpha males finding their mates but do they have to be so violent when they do it? In most of the books I've read, there are two types of guys. The romantics at heart that make love to their women-but later screw them to they pass out (Black Dagger Brotherhood novels) and the psychos that pretty much rape their women, and get more intense as the relationship grows (The Carpathians Dark Series). Now we've got Sebastian who pretty much lets her know he's sorry but he's gotta either have sex with her or rip her throat out.
The book was a good read but towards the end, Ruby started getting on my very last nerve with her independent woman speeches. She had a good man but didn't know how to appreciate him. Sure he's a dangerous hybrid lycan but he's hot in bed. And yeah, he's possessive as hell, but if the man didn't love her, he wouldn't have put up with her. I wanted to smack her, her friend, and the social worker. Pass Sebastian my way, I'll take him-hairy ass and all!

A Touch of Dead by Charlaine Harris

Three Stars

Book Summary
In Fairy Dust, fairy twins Claudine and Claude hire Sookie to find out who killed their triplet, Claudette. Sookie's got a bad feeling about this but is determined to bring the twins closure.

In Dracula Night, Eric is throwing a birthday party at his bar Fangtasia. It's Dracula's birthday and Eric is hoping that Dracula himself will make an appearance. Vampires only celebrate two holidays, Halloween and Dracula's birthday. Sookie is invited, but with a room full of vamps and Dracula on the way, it's going to be hard to keep her off the dinner menu.

One Word Answer, Sookie gets some unsettling news concerning her long lost cousin, Hadley. Just when she thinks life couldn't get any weirder, she finds herself drawn further into the vampire world.

What is there to do in Bon Temps with no mystery to solve? In Lucky, Sookie must help her insurance agent uncover some strange happenings with his business.

Gift Wrap finds Sookie alone for the holidays but gets a very unexpected holiday surprise in the form of a naked man.

I picked up this book of short stories about Sookie Stackhouse thinking it was new material. It wasn't but I still love me some Sookie Stackhouse so I read it anyway. I had already read most of these stories because they were included in other anthologies. I did enjoy rereading them since we won't be hearing anything from the Bon Temps gang until next summer.

New Moon Movie

I went to see the movie yesterday and was like WOW! It was 100% better than Twilight. Chris Weitz and Melissa Rosenberg, the director and writer, did a wonderful job with this movie. The CGI was off the chain. The acting was so much better and it didn't hurt to have more well known and experienced actors either.

The movie did skip a lot and cut a few scenes short but that's okay. The main thing is that they skipped over boring parts in the beginning with Jacob and Bella getting to know each other that I actually skipped over in the book. They found the best parts and made them work out the story. The only parts I hated were the romantic scenes between Bella/Edward or Bella/Jacob. In the book, you could feel the tension between the two couples but Kristen Stewart could not bring it to the scenes. To me, all the scenes that mattered where she is suppose to look dreamily into their eyes, there was no chemistry. She barely made eye contact. The scenes just fell flat. Her kisses with Edward were a disaster. This is another reason, I think the rumors of them dating are false. If they were dating, they wouldn't be afraid to kiss or look into each other's eyes. There would definitely be chemistry and some real kissing going on (probably some tongue too). Sorry, TMI. The only thing I can say is that KS can do a good depressing scene. She can do any wounded character very well but other than that, she was very annoying.

Robert Pattinson was excellent as Edward. He was less awkward and even though he didn't have a lot of screen time, he nailed it. He does a good job at being a tortured soul. He could have spent a little more time in the gym with Taylor Lautner.

Taylor Lautner was like POW. Shirtless, my god he was HOT. As soon as he lost all that retarded hair, he was perfect. I still feel like a perv because TL is only 17, but DAMN. I enjoyed the scenes with him and the wolf pack. The actors were great and brought a little comedy to the movie. Can't wait until they get more screen time in the next movies. The scene were Bella slapped Paul was priceless. There were a lot of guys at the movie theater and when the scene came up, they kept chanting "throw that bitch to the wolves". LMAO!

Another priceless scene was the fight between Edward and Felix. Felix puts the smack down on Edward's candy ass. I was so disappointed that the Voulturi visit was so short. They looked scary and evil as hell but for some reason, I found them comical. Their casting was excellent because they looked every bit the part. I look forward to them in the next movies also.

More priceless moments to look out for...
The Cullens restraining Jasper at Bella party
Bella being "so mouth watering" to Laurent
Jacob almost kicking Mike's ass after going to the movies with Bella
Alice telling Bella she'll be back after Bella puts the "dog" out
Embry and Quil meeting Bella for the first time
Jasper telling Bella it would be nice not to always wanting to kill her
Suicidal Edward when he thinks Bella is dead

I could go on and on, but those are some of my favorite moments. I suggest you make time to go see this movie because it is so good. So good, I'll probably see it again and buy the DVD. Summit hit a home run with this because it will be a box office smash. It'll probably make two to three times what Twilight made. I give it five stars.

Maybe Robert Pattinson Can Really Act...

Well, well, well, I thought Robert Pattinson couldn't act but I guess I might have to take that back. Watch this trailor of his new movie Remember Me . It looks like it will be good but it won't be released until March 2010. He would be so cute if he acted like he cared how he looked. Move over Kristen Stewart, looks like he'll be dating (or so we'll be gossiping) someone new.

Deep Kiss of Winter by Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter

Four stars

Book Summary

Untouchable
Murdoch Wroth will stop at nothing to claim Daniela the Ice Maiden -- the delicate Valkyrie who makes his heart beat for the first time in three hundred years. Yet the exquisite Danii is part ice fey, and her freezing skin can't be touched by anyone but her own kind without inflicting pain beyond measure. Soon desperate for closeness, in an agony of frustration, Murdoch and Danii will do anything to have each other. Together, can they find the key that will finally allow them to slake the overwhelming desire burning between them?

Two books for the price of one. Yes, New York Times Bestselling Authors Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter are behind these sinfully stories.

In Untouchable, Murdoch, the last of the legendary Wroth brothers has finally found his mate but he is not entirely happy with who she is. Daniela is the hunted Ice Queen-half Valkrie and half Icere who has the task of taming this vampire warrior. She's a beautiful two thousand year old virgin that is dying to be touched by her handsome vampire. Murdoch hasn't been attracted nor has he touched a woman in over three hundred years and is aching to take his new bride. Their mating has to put on hold because they must find a way to touch without causing each other pain. Iceres cannot touch another species without feeling and inflicting pain.

I loved this story. KC did an excellent job intertwining all the brothers stories in this book. Murdoch and Daniela's story is told while all the other Immortals After Dark stories happen in the background. I just can't wait until Nix is paired with her other half.

Tempt Me Eternally
Aleaha Love can be anyone -- literally. With only skin-to-skin contact, she can change her appearance, assume any identity. Her newest identity switch has made her an AIR (alien investigation and removal) agent and sends her on a mission to capture a group of otherworldly warriors. Only she becomes the captured. Breean, a golden-skinned commander known for his iron will who is at once dangerous and soul-shatteringly seductive, threatens her new life. Because for the first time, Aleaha only wants to be herself....

I've only read one of Gena Showalter's books and wasn't impressed enough to finish it, but Tempt Me Eternally has changed my mind. I will be working my way through her other books.
I hated that this was a short story, unlike Kresley Cole's full length novel. I did feel that the story could have been developed a little more because the story left you wanting more. I like to read about hard core alpha males that have to work for the attention of their women and humble themselves in the process. Aleaha had Breean's nose open from the jump. I felt sorry for her at first because she'd had a hard life but I quickly started to dislike her. I was glad that Breenan turned the tables on her and made her beg for his attention which made her realize that she wanted him just as much as he wanted her. He literally pulled her secret out of her and didn't judge her once he knew the real her, even preferred her real identity. He also protected her and cared for her when she needed him most. And what does this trifling heifer do? She stabs him in the neck and almost gets him killed. I'd loved to see more Breenan but I think GS needs to pair him with another heroine that is worthy of him.

Book Covers

Has anyone noticed that I only read books with HOT guys on the cover? Look at my bookshelves. Ha ha ha! Just kidding (or am I). I've read about four books I need to do a review on. I am behind but will get back to the blogging in a few days.
