Book Summary:
The hardest battles are fought within

Shattered

Quinn Rafferty is working as a bounty hunter and bail bondsman in St. Louis when a new neighbor catches his eye. He’s tempted by her beauty—but he knows from experience that anyone desperate enough to live in his building is damaged goods. Besides, he has his own soul to mend before he can worry about anyone else.

Desperate

Sara Davis is on the run, but not for the usual reasons a woman goes on the lam. She’s not an abused wife, and she’s not a criminal. But she does have a plan for her future. And as much as she finds herself attracted to her gruff, tough neighbor, she can’t risk telling him the secrets she’s hiding. There’s just too much at stake.

Driven to desire…

But Quinn must get closer to Sara when she turns out to be the target of his new missing persons case, and he discovers that there is something more complex and dangerous to her than he thought. Now, both Quinn and Sara will have to expose their true feelings—as well as their fragile hearts—if they hope their love will survive…

Mama Kitty’s Thoughts
Sarah has a past she's running from, but we don't find out exactly why she's running until nearly the very end of the book. Normally this annoys me when something is dragged out for so long, but Shiloh wrote it in such a way that it kept me intrigued and unable to put the book down.

Quinn is broken. He had the crappiest of crappy childhoods until his father got custody of him. By then, he was already programmed by his crazy mother to believe that he is the only one who will take care of himself. I hated seeing Quinn's response to both his father and his brother, but when you're thatmessed up, the scars take a long time to heal.

I found it a little difficult to believe that two characters who were running from someone (Sarah) or something (Quinn) would hook up or trust each other so quickly, but sometimes two broken pieces can fit together well enough to be whole again.

I loved the story and I couldn't put the book down. I had to know what happened and if Quinn and Sarah got their HEA. The smex was intense and steamy (which I've come to expect from Shiloh Walker), and the story was one that I could connect with - even if I've never gone through the situations the characters have gone through. The story & the characters are written in such a way that it feels real to you, and you can't help but have your heart go out to them.

Mama Kitty’s Rating:
Four and a half flowers of love.

Great review! I'm still deliberating between reading this one first or Fragile. Everyone seems to favor Broken.

Thanks for posting!

Ragan: From what I could tell, Fragile came first in the series, but you can easily read Broken first and not be lost (I did).

Thank you to Diva for having me today! The book was great and our very long emails leading up to today were a lot of fun. :)
