Wishlist Wednesday

Okay, you all know that I absolutely love my books and even though I have quite a large TBR list, I still want more.  So, this is my latest Wishlist of books that I will positively die if I don't read.

Trouble Down The Road by Bettye Griffin
Suzanne and Brad Betancourt have a lot to be grateful for-their home, their children, and each other. They've even survived the fact that Brad's ex-wife lives next door and Suzanne's intrusive mother and siblings are just down the road. But Suzanne's confidence unravels at Brad's fiftieth birthday blowout, when young, voluptuous, neighbor Micheline brings a specially wrapped gift: herself. Suddenly, Suzanne feels like she's the one having the midlife crisis...
Hoping to impress Brad, and ease family troubles that are already straining their relationship, Suzanne goes into business with a friend. But the endeavor stretches her too thin, leaving Brad hurt and alienated. Soon he begins to distance himself from her-moving right into the waiting arms of Micheline, who is all too ready to ditch her own husband.
Now, with marriages on the line across the neighborhood, Suzanne and Brad will have to question their notion of loyalty to one another-and to themselves.

Stealing Kathryn by Jacquelyn Frank

Title:  Stealing Kathryn
Author:  Jacquelyn Frank
Released:  May 1, 2010
Series:  The Gatherers, Book 2
How I got it:  Purchased for NOOK
LendMe Feature:  Yes

Book Summary
Sandman. Angus. Morpheus. He is known by many names, except his true one, Adrian. When he departs his world, it is to enter the sacred space of sleep, and he is not there to sow sweet dreams. Adrian's mission is to reap the dark energy of nightmares, work that has twisted his soul as well as his once-handsome face. Now, he lives only to await the day darkness finally overcomes him...and to collect exquisite reminders of what he's lost...

But there is one treasure that stands apart. Having risked everything to obtain her, Adrian soon realizes his mistake. For Kathryn has a wholly unexpected power over him, not only for what she represents, but for what for she is: a soul with desires as strong as his own, tempered by compassion that could save Adrian from his self-made hell-or condemn them both...

My Thoughts
At first, I didn't know what to make of Stealing Kathryn.  This is my first Jacquelyn Frank book and it had a Beauty and the Beast theme, so I decided to give it a go.

Adrian is a perverted Sandman that likes to seduce women and scare the shit out of them in their nightmares.  I thought he was a porno version of Freddy Kruger.  LOL!  He visits them in their dream state and feeds on their frightened energy.

Kathryn is such a boring person that she has no life outside of her family.  Since her mother's death, her father has depended, no demanded that Kathryn stay at home to help take care of the family ranch and her younger sister.  Being the dutiful daughter, Kathryn never tries to leave, nor does she complain about the short end of the stick that she has been given.  But secretly, she dreams of leaving home and seeking her own adventures.  These adventures are what brings her to Adrian's attention.

Adrian has long enjoyed being a part of Kathryn's nightmares, but lately he has become obsessed with the unsuspecting girl and decides to have her at all costs.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but if someone is all up in my dreams, then I found out that he has kidnapped me for his own sexual pleasure, to me that would definitely rank high on my stranger danger meter!

This should have been a crazy stalker, get the hell away from me story, but it turned into a pretty good love story.  Me personally, I don't think I could have seen past the fangs, claws, and Egore references.  And have sex with it.....eeeew!

Aside from Adrian being ugly as hell, his temper was soooo out of control.  He damn near killed his own sister because she wanted to save Kathryn from his crazy ass.

I wanted to hate him, but I had to love him.  Once I found out why he acted and looked the way he did, I did feel sorry for him and wanted him to have his Kindra (his mate).  I just hate that he had to abuse his sister and love interest to get to his turning point.  Let my brother raise a hand to me, and watch me crack his jaw with some fierce sisterly love.

My Rating
I give this book four stars because I enjoyed it.  I did not want to put it down.  I feel asleep many times with my NOOK in my hand and drool running down the side of my mouth trying to finish this book.  I would recommend this book because it is truly a good read.

Now I'm off to start reading Hunting Julian, book one in the Gatherers Series. He sounded like such a hawtie!
Okay, can someone steal me right now?  (Waving my hands)  Over here, single hawt Gatherers, I'm your Kindra!!!

25 Things About Me

This is something fun that I found over @ My Overstuffed Bookcase.  I've been following other bloggers and have read theirs too.  It looks like fun, so I decided to post mine too.

1. Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed?

 Closed.
2. Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotels?

No, just more stuff to carry out.
3. Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out?

I'm a tuck freak but when I get up the next morning, they are always untucked.
4. Would you rather be attacked by a bear or a swarm of bees

Neither, I like to stay pain free!  I try not to be outside long enough to provoke either.
5. Do you have freckles?
 No
6. What is your biggest pet peeve?
I really wish that people knew when to shut up!  Why do you have to start talking to me when I'm on the phone, reading a book, or watching my fav show?  Shut the f*ck up!
7. Have you ever peed in the woods?

Can't say that I have.  I like the privacy of a bathroom.
8. Do you ever dance if there’s no music playing?

Sure.  There's always a beat in my head.
9. Do you chew your pens and pencils?

Hell no!  I know where my pencils and pens have been!
10. Is it okay for guys to wear pink?

Personally, I don't like a guy in pink.  Makes me think he's a girly man.  Would you put your little boy in pink?  I think not.
11. What do you dip a chicken nugget in?
Ranch dressing
12. What is your favorite food?

 Lasagna
13. What movies could you watch over and over and still love?

Sweet Home Alabama,  Sex In The City, Brown Sugar, The Color Purple
14. Were you ever a boy/girl scout?

No
15. Would you ever strip or pose nude in a magazine?

No.
16. Can you change the oil on a car?

No, that's what guys are for.
 17. Ever gotten a speeding ticket?

Only one- that I couldn't beat.
18. Ever ran out of gas?

Yes, but it was the car's fault!  I think the gas thingy was broken.
 19. Are you lazy?

Yes, sometimes and I can't stand someone that lazier than me.
20. When you were a kid, what did you dress up as for Halloween?

For some reason, I was always a witch.
21. How many languages can you speak?

I barely speak English.
22. Who is better…Leno or Letterman?

I'd rather set myself on fire than have to suffer through either funny looking men.
 23. Do you sing in the car?
Yeah!  Who else is gonna keep me hype?
24. Ever eat a pierogi?

No.  Sounds like a dog or something.
25. First concert?

Sadly, I've never been to one.  I've always made plans to but I always end up not being able to go or something. I did get to see some Memphis artists perform at the Dub Car Show so I guess that does count as a concert.

Now, copy the Qs to your blog and tell us about you.  Leave me a comment, so I can check you out too!

Dead In The Family by Charlaine Harris

Title:  Dead In The Family
Author:  Charlaine Harris
Released:  May 4, 2010
Series:  Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire Series, Book 10
How I Got It:  Purchased ebook

Book Summary
After enduring torture and the loss of loved ones during the brief but deadly Faery War, Sookie Stackhouse is hurt and she's angry. Just about the only bright spot in her life is the love she thinks she feels for vampire Eric Northman. But he's under scrutiny by the new Vampire King because of their relationship. And as the political implications of the Shifters coming out are beginning to be felt, Sookie's connection to the Shreveport pack draws her into the debate. Worst of all, though the door to Faery has been closed, there are still some Fae on the human side-and one of them is angry at Sookie. Very, very angry...

My Thoughts
Okay, to be honest, parts of this book had me feeling like it should have been called "Kickin' It With Sookie" because it was just that.  Seriously, I felt like killing someone just to get some action going.  I almost put the book down because I got tired of waiting for the action.

The only reason I kept reading was because I didn't want to miss my two favorite characters: Pam and Eric.   I'd gladly read any book where they get more page time.  Whatever they do turns out to be entertaining without even meaning to be.

We also got to meet Eric's maker.  That was a bonus because he brought along Eric's "brother", a thirteen year old psychotic boy toy that wanted to be Jason's BFF.  A psychotic barely-a-teen vamp?  WTF?  He was such a chaotic mess that everybody was glad to see him die.

Another reason I kept reading is because Claude, Sookie's fairy cousin, just appeared on her doorstep all out of the blue and whatnot.  Then he asked to move in.  Now we all know that Claude has not been a fan of Sookie's since his twin, Claudine died in the last book while protecting her.  And then her weirdo fairy great uncle showed up, trying to play all nice.  I knew something was up with that and knew there would eventually be a fae showdown of some sort. The happenings were not what I expected, but it  kept the story interesting.

Oh, and Bill was there too.  And he's got a new honey.  Her presence was unexpected, but proved to add a little spice to a dull tale.  Her presence gave a little insight as to why Bill lied to Sookie about going to see his maker in the earlier books.  Now I kinda understand why he wanted to keep Lorena as far away from Sookie as he possibly could.

Last, but not least, our favorite were Alcide returns.  And of course he returns with more drama to involve Sookie in. The weres weren't a big part of the story, but it was enough to keep you posted on what going on with them.

My Rating
I have to give this book  three and 3.5 stars.  I am a Sookie Stackhouse fan, but I do have to say that this book did not live up to the hype.  I liked some parts, the others were not action grabbers.  It still wasn't a bad book, just expected more.

Does my blog have a potty mouth?

Seriously?  I want to know.  Sometimes, I do type before I think.  I blog my feelings and I have tried to tone down my language at times, but sometimes it is what it is.  So please tell me what you think.  Do I need to slap myself with one  of those warnings for my blog content?  And be honest please!

Charlaine Harris Book Tour In MS

When I visited Books A Million today, on my quest to get a cover for my Nook, I noticed this on the door.

An Evening with Charlaine Harris

Monday July 12, 2010
7:00 PM until 8:00 PM

Join Tunica County native and author of the Sookie Stackhouse series, the basis for the hit HBO series True Blood. Funded by the Elizabeth Entrikin Cooke Foundation. Book signing sponsored by the Friends of the Hernando Library. Sale books provided by Square Books of Oxford, MS.
Location: Hernando Public Library

WOOOOHOOOO!  I was just thinking to myself, the other day, about how I never get to go to any book signing or meet and greets with my fav authors because they don't come to Memphis.

It's good that Ms Harris is from Mississippi and she doesn't forget her peeps.  Even though I live in Memphis, TN, Mississippi is right down the road from me.  I shop more in Mississippi than I do in Tennessee.  Sales taxes in TN is 9.25% and tax in MS is 7%.

Hernando, MS is probably 15 minutes away so that'll be an easy trip to make.  Hopefully, i'll get to take pixs with her and post them here.

Now, I've gotta buy the book to get signed.  Dammit, why did I have to buy the ebook?

Accessories For My Nookie

Yes, I call my Nook Nookie.

I have had it for over a week now and have been looking for a case to keep it all in one piece and scratch free.  Well, when I purchased it, the only thing that the BookStar had was the Rear Cover in that god awful grass color.  Not having that.

So, I figured that if I go to Barnes and Nobles, they were sure to have whatever I needed.  Uh...no.  I went to about three different BNN and none of them had any of the backs, covers, or whatnot.  Nada.

Well, the last BNN that I went to told me that they didn't know why they haven't gotten any and they have been on back order since forever.  So, I tell them how many I've been to and one of the sales clerk told me that she could tell me where to get one.  Well the other sales clerk was like, "No, she can just wait until we get them in stock or she can just go online and get one."   Bitch!!!!

Anyhoo, the first sales lady tells me that Best Buy has some covers that fit the Kindle, Sony E reader, and the Nook.  And why is it that when I go to Best Buy, they are selling Nooks too!  Same price, no difference.  Hell, I didn't even have to buy it from BNN after all.

I ended up buying the M-Edge Latitude Jacket For Nook for $34.99, which is the same price I would have paid for whatever I bought on BNN website and probably more.

The jacket comes in a variety of colors but the sole one that Best Buy had was red so I snatched it up.  My Nookie fits in it perfectly.  It zips up so there is no accidental slide outs.  It has kinda like a fleece lining that cushions it so if you drop it, it won't hurt it.  But you do know that dropping it just to test it is not recommended.  It also has a zip pocket in front so that you can store your charger.  There is also room to put the light if you have one.  It also has pocket in back in case you want to slip a gift card or something in it.

Below are the pix that I took.  I think I got a good deal.  Please comment and let me know what you think.  Remember, it's not just for the Nook, it does hold the Kindle comfortably.

Lover Mine by J R Ward

Title:  Lover Mine
Author:  J R Ward
Released: April 27, 2010
Series:  Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 8th
How I Got It:  Purchased

Book Summary:
In the darkest corners of the night in Caldwell, New York, a conflict like no other rages.  Long divided as a terrifying battleground for the vampires and their enemies, the city is home to a band of brothers born to defend their race: the warrior vampires of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

John Matthew has come a long way since he was found living among humans, his vampire nature unknown to himself and to those around him.  After he was taken in by the Brotherhood, no one could guess what his true history was-or his true identity.  Indeed, the fallen Brother Darius has returned, but with a different face and a very different destiny.  as a vicious personal vendetta takes John into the heart of the war, he will need to call upon both who he is now and who he once was in order to face off against evil incarnate.

Xhex, a symphath assassin, has long steeled herself against the attraction between herself and John Matthew.  Having already lost one lover to madness, she will not allow the male of worth to fall llprey to the darkness of her twisted life.  when fate intervenes, however, the two discover that love, like destiny, is inevitable between soul mates.

My Thoughts
I was not entirely impressed with this book.  I was so excited to get my hands on this book, that I even tried to find it out before the due date.  Now we all know that some stores are guilty of this, and I was hoping praying that Wal-Mart would not recognize the important of the BDB series and would put the book out early.  But nooooo, those cocksuckers put other books out early, (oh, yeah, I watched daily) but couldn't put this one out.  And, my middle finger goes to that new Barnes and Noble clerk that was about to sell me a copy, until he had to go all newbie on me and had to ask his co-worker a freakin' question.  He comes back to me and says "I'm sorry ma'am, but that book doesn't come out until Tuesday.  Would you like for me to hold it for you?"  Hell ffffffing naw!

Okay, back to the review.

I did enjoy every minute of  John and Xhex, it's just that I think their story deserved a little more. It was great that they ended up together, but I just felt like it was missing something.  Probably that same something that Covet was missing.  What?  Not sure, but it's something.

I was all for the tat showing his dedication to his lady love whether she accepted him or not.  I was also loving the way they vibed when he finally got her back.   I was in tears when JM was all she wanted, trusted, and leaned on.  I thought it was so sweet that she held onto him like her security blankie. (Sigh)  Finally!  This is why I love you, J R Ward.  But why did  JM have to go and spoil the romance with a  line like, "I want in you." Couldn't he have said something sexy like, "God, I want you."  Damn, bonded males are never gentleman when they really want it.

So damn glad that Lash got popped.  I have been waiting for someone to kick his ass from day one.  But, what happened to the mega showdown between good and evil?  I was looking for a longer ass kicking.  Maybe something slow and painful symphath style.   Butch could have snorted him up after Xhex got through with him just to make sure that he'd never come back.

On the other hand, I think he should have been kept around a little bit longer.  Happy endings always have to have some type of drama to keep us interested.  I think there should have been some type of plot where the Omega ended up taking Lash out, because Lash became too powerful.  They could have had a fight to the death, to see who would be the last Omega standing.  It was clear the Lash was truly his Father's son and headed to Omegadom.  Maybe that's why the O didn't hesitate to put the hit out.

Anyhoo, glad JM and Xhex got it right, got it together, and yadda yadda yadda, but does that mean that they are going to turn into side stories like my fav couple, Rhage and Mary?  After a couple has their HEA, it's like "that's a wrap" and we hear about them every now and then.

I guess now I'll have to transfer my obsession to the train wreck love affair that is or isn't Qhinn and Blay.  If those two don't just rip each other's leathers off and just take care of the business, I am going to scream!
Serves Qhinn right to have to watch Saxton become his buddy's jump off.  Blay has damn near begged for the booty, got denied, so now he's on to the next.  If these two do end up together, I think they'll always have a threesome going on with a female just to keep Qhinn "normal".  If Q does cheat, I'd love to punch him in one of his mismatched eyes so hard, that they'd both become the same color!

I actually like Blay and Saxton together-for awhile. Just long enough for Q to get himself together and realize that Blay is his mate.  It wouldn't be fair to put them together and have Q just going through the motions with B. Like I've said before, I don't really care for M/M, but for these two, I make the exception.  Their romance, or whatever they call it, is just too hawt to ignore.

As for Saxton, he is a wonderful character and deserves more development. While JM is busy having his HEA, Saxton becomes the third wheel in the B and Q triangle.  There's going to be alot of growling, fang baring, and  bonding scents roaring. Will B have to chose between Q and S?   Yay!  It's about to get supa messy at the Brotherhood Mansion and I am going to love every minute of it.

My Rating
I give it 4 stars. I really wanted to give it 5 stars since I bought the ebook for my Nook, then bought the hardcover for my collection.  Sadly, I cannot give what is not deserved.
To be honest, a lot of stuff, I didn't read and others I was like...uhh, okaay.  The main thing I was focused on was the JM/Xhex/Lash  and the Qhuinn/Blay/Saxton dramas.  All the other stuff was really unimportant and could have been left out.

The paranormal investigators stuff was kinda wack so I skipped over it.  I got the gist of what it represented and maybe later I'll actually read it.

I thought the Darius back story was going to lead into a big revelation on JM's part, but I guess that's going to play out slowly in future books. Something else to look forward to.

The Payne and Vishous reunion was sweet. Oh, the Scribe Virgin so needs her glowing ass checked.   And who better than her own children to go toe to toe with her.  Now we can get to know Vishous a little better and hopefully Butch will find some other shit to do.  I still don't care for him and just wish he and Marisa would just walk into the Fade together!

Anyhoo, I don't know if I'll be as excited about the next book.   Still love you Warden, but if it doesn't have some major Q and B action or Mannie and Payne aren't all that, or Mannie and Payne don't dust the Scribe Virgin, I think I'll be checking it out at the library.  For now, the thrill is gone, so please, please, please, make it juicy!

It's Friday! Time for the Book Blogger Hop

It's Finally Friday!  Happy Birthday to me!  Yes I plan to be so out of pocket today, so that's why I'm trying to get as much done now as I can this morning.

Oh Shit, Am I Still Interested?

Okay, I was trying to tweet this, but I got a little long winded so I figured that I'd just post it here.

I just finished Lover Mine and I feel so...nothing. The mystery of John Matthew and his obsession with Xhex is what really drew me to this series.  But now that he has his HEA and seems like everything has come full circle and gotten wrapped up all nice and neat for him, my attraction to this series may have been satisfied.

I'm not going to write the review just yet, because I'm dosing at my laptop as I type, but I just wanted to get these thoughts out.

You know what, on second thought, I forgot about the "do I love him enough to come out of the closet" train wreck that is Qhuinn that I must see to the end.  I guess that answers my Q about if I'd really be interested in another book.  Damn, Warden, you know how to keep us coming back with your readable crack.

Nook! Nook! Nook!

Okay, today, I went into the Barnes and Noble looking for Sex In The City by Candace Bushnell. I wanted to read the OG story before I read The Carrie Diaries.

Anyhoo, somehow, I went from talking about Sex In The City to talking about The Nook. Then, I found myself putting the book back to getting The Nook.

WTF! It happened soooo fast. The sales clerks-notice I said clerks because they ganged up on me-went into a super sales presentation. That coupled with the fact that I've been dying to get one since Christmas had me telling the clerk to stop talking and start ringing up the sale. I told the cashier that if he took too long, I'd walk out without spending a dime! Well, in less than a minute, I had a BNN bag and a phat charge on my debit card.

The prices I pay to be a book whore....Yay me!

Spill.com Review of Nightmare On Elm Street

These guys have the funniest reviews ever!  I haven't checked in with them in awhile, but watch this review for a good laugh.

Sexy Saturday

Since I forgot, and it's Sunday, here's a double dose.  And OMG, what I wouldn't give for a few minutes with him! This could be Trez or iAm.  Tell me what you think.  Could his hawtness be a Shadow?

I'm still alive!

Yes, I am still alive.  I have not been posting because I have been taking my time and savoring all of the Lover Mine moments. I'm not doing my famous "look at the good parts first, then read the story in between".  I want to be sure I get all the drama and action together.  I am half way through the book, so the review should be coming up this week.
