A WTF moment

No, just kidding! LOL! Hello, fellow book chicks and book divas! I just wanted to to take a minute to say thanks to everyone that follows or just reads my book blog. I appreciate the comments that have been left about some of my posts but would love to have more feedback from my readers. If you've read a book that I've reviewed, please share your thoughts. If you've recently read something that I haven't and it's good, please share that too. Suggestions are always welcome.

There are books that I've read but haven't reviewed yet, because I don't seem to have enough time in my day to review. I'm working, going to school, and being a mom. With that being said, if you'd like to be a guest reviewer, please let me know. Email me at vonbur3@aol.com or just post a comment to the blog.

I'm working two jobs because I need a new car and a Nook(just waiting on them to restock)! Yes, I stopped at Bookstar and got the chance to check one out. It was bigger than I thought it was going to be. It's not that complicated to use or figure out either. I was also able to ask the clerks questions and they actually knew answers and didn't have to refer to a stupid manual (like most idiot clerks do with new products). I was trying to decide if I wanted the Nook or a netbook. After checking out several netbooks, I think the Nook would be a wiser decision. I want something that's lightweight to carry just for reading my books. The net books are small and cute enough but if I'm going to buy a laptop, I think I'd want it to at least have some type of burner or reader on it, which none of the netbooks I saw have. Not sure why, but I thought they did. And some of the prices compared to that of a full size laptops with burners and more hard drive and memory.

After doing the research on both items and from actually being able to personally inspect the Nook, I think it will be a great investment for me because my bookshelf is completely stuffed. I've been trying to sell books on Ebay, but haven't had a lot of luck. I have gotten rid of a large portion on Ebay, but the last few I put up didn't sell. If anyone has any suggestions on how to sell the ones I still have or want a list of what I have, just let me know. Some I am willing to part with, but others will stay until I am old and gray.

Back to the blog, as you can tell, my blog is not always PG. I've debated with myself if I want to try to keep it PG, but me being me, I don't think I'm going to be able to do that. I like to express myself and sometimes I need those extra colorful words to achieve that. If I offend, I'm sorry, but when it comes to my books, it is what it is. I do rant instead of review sometimes and my grammar and sentence structure are off the chain. Sometimes, I just sit in front of the computer and just flow. When I reread what I've written, I get a good laugh. Sometimes I clean it up, but half the time I don't change it. Like I said, it is what it is and it's all fun.

Any whoo, thanks for reading....

Oh, the pix, I just wanted to give you something to drool over on this slow Sunday. David Beckham is too sexy for his own damn good. Posh, you lucky bitch!!! I HATE YOU!

Jessica's Guide To Dating On The Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey

Five Stars

Book Summary
Marrying a vampire definitely doesn't fit in to Jessica Packwood's senior-year "get a life" plan. But then a bizarre (and incredibly hot) new exchange student named Lucius Vladescu shows up, claiming that Jessica is a Romanian vampire princess by birth and he's her long-lost fiance. Armed with new found confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: A Teen Vampire's Guide to Dating, Health, and Emotions, Jessica makes a dramatic transition transition from average American teenager to glam European vampire princess. But Jessica has never even been kissed-how can she possibly commit herself to a long-term relationship? Or an eternal relationship, for that matter?

After reading and loving Twilight, I thought nothing could top Bella and Edward in the teen star crossed lovers category, but Jessica and Lucius are my new besties.

Jessica thinks that she is an average seventeen year old farm girl living in a sleepy Pennsylvania town where nothing much happens. She doesn't know about the secret that her parents have kept from her her whole life. Once this secret comes out, all hell will break loose.

The secret is that Jessica was born Antanasia Dragonir, a vampire princess. A princess that is the key to preserving peace between two royal Romanian vampires families. At birth, Jessica was promised to marry Lucias , the Vladescu prince. Their marriage would unite the two families and prevent a bloody war. When, Jessica's parents died, they entrusted her safety to the Packwoods, American scientists who were well aware of vampire society and what her future held for her. They swore that when the time came, they would honor the pact. The problem is that they never got the chance to explain everything before Lucius showed up to claim her.

Lucius is tall, handsome, mysterious, snotty, arrogant, and a royal pain in the ass. He arrives to find that his princess is a simple farm girl in desperate need of a makeover. He is appalled to see her doing what he calls "servant work".

Tired of the Packwood's games, Lucian fits himself into Jessica's life and prepares to take what is rightfully his. It is his duty to bring "Antanasia" home to Romania to fulfill the pact, or suffer his ruthless uncle's wrath.

Despite the Packwood's protests, they allow Lucius to live with them and try to help prepare Jessica for her future as a vampire princess.

I have never heard of Beth Fantaskey, but I am so glad that this book was recommended to me. I usually don't read a lot of young adult books because the characters are usually spoiled, whiny teenagers. And they skimp on the sex! Like we really believe that most teens aren't having sex. Personally, I think that the only teens that aren't having sex are Bella and Edward, but that's another story.

Anyway, this book is funny as hell! I started reading it in the bookstore and couldn't put it down long enough to drive myself home. Forget texting while driving, what about reading while driving. Stupid, yes, I know. I finally put it down so I could drive, but picked it back up at every red light. The story drew me that fast. I have definitely found a new favorite that I will read over and over again.

I liked Jessica because she only had a few whiny moments and you can stand to read the whole book without wanting to skip to the good parts. You'll want to read every last word in this book because it's all good. Jessica has spunk and is not afraid to deal with things. Her relationship with Lucius, or lack of relationship is so much fun to read about.

Lucius is the classic tortured soul who doesn't think anyone cares or could care for him. I didn't like him at first because he was a royal asshole. The letters that he writes to his uncle about his failures (to woo Jessica and how he tries to get used to American ways) are funny as hell. He thinks that he is the best thing going and can't understand why Jessica prefers her neighbor, Jake, which he calls "squatty boy" over him. I still haven't figured out what "squatty boy" means but each time he mentions it, I can't control my laughter.

In the end, Lucius turned out to be the good guy. He sacrifices his own life for the woman he loves. How Bella and Edward of them...but much better, and less whiny.

While I was finishing this review, I was searching for a book pix to use and visiting BF's website. Why I've never visited, I'm not sure, but so glad that I just did. I was hoping that there would be a follow up story or two because the ending was really not an ending. It kinda left the door open for anything to happen. When, I went to the website, it has the full story of their wedding. Woohoo! I do love me some freebies! Here's the link

Nauti Boy by Lora Leigh

Three and 1/2 stars

Book Summary
Too weak to resist young Kelly Salyers's attempts at seduction. Rowdy Mackay left home eight years ago. Duty as a U.S. Marine put a safe distance between him and the temptation of the nubile Kentucky vixen. Now Rowdy's back home and ready to engage in the kind of erotic games that have earned him and his two cousins a Nauti-boy reputation.

Once it was Kelly's dream, too, to feel the heat of the boy she desired. But an attack from a stalker still on the prowl has left Kelly terrified of a man's touch. Now as fear and desire converge, Rodwdy fights to save her from the deadly threats of a stranger, to rid her of her demons and to satisfy a hunger more powerful than either can imagine.

I have very mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, I loved the romance between Rowdy and Kelly and was glad to finally see them together. It was nice to see a guy like Rowdy not take advantage of a young girl like so many other creeps would have. He came home to claim the girl he left behind only after she was old enough. And god did she have to be old enough to handle all his sexual drama.

On the other hand, I wasn't too comfortable with the "she's my stepsister, but I love her" situation. That fact had me thinking WTF! Okay, I like Lora Leigh, and this is the first in her Nauti Series, but do I need to keep reading? Of course I did, but wasn't very happy with all that I read.

I couldn't get with the fact that even though she saved herself for him only, after he hit it, he wanted to share her with his cousins. Who in the hell still does that? Guys do that sort of thing in high school. One would think that if you're pushing 30 or 40, you'd at least grow out of that. Me personally, of course I would have slept with Rowdy at least once (after his AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases tests), but when his cousins came sniffing around, I'd have to say "thanks, but no thanks". Who wants to be shared by the pimp, sorry, man you love?

The sick part of that is that Kelly was almost raped and is still being stalked by this wack job. One would think that Rowdy could get put his penis up for a minute and be a little more sensitive to her feelings. Nope, not going to happen. Not only did he let his cousins touch her, but someone licked her ass! Okay, that's enough. If this were erotic fiction or something, I'd be all for that, but we are talking about a girl who stayed a virgin for him, almost got raped, is being stalked and all her man can think about is if she'll let his cousins have sex with her?

The Mackay boys are jackasses. Not only do they want the entire town to think they are taking turns on Kelly to catch this guy, but they actually try to make it reality. Forget that Kelly is scared to death and really doesn't want to do it.

The only thing that saved this book for me was that Rowdy's dad (an even older whore) told him that if he wanted Kelly for himself, he'd better start acting like it. He realizes how much he loves her and seeing his cousins with her was not an option. His inner alpha male begins to surfaces and he takes her for his own. Wow, a drama filled journey, but a happy ending.

After thoughts, I do not want to read anymore books about stepsister and stepbrothers getting together and the family being okay with that. Talk about keeping it in the family...ick!
